Takeoff Consulting: AI Coaching in Richfield, Utah

I’m Dr. Jonathan Leusden, and outside the clinic I run Takeoff Consulting, an AI coaching and consulting practice based here in Richfield. If you’re trying to actually get something useful out of AI tools, for your business or just for yourself, this is where that happens.

Two years of hands-on work, not theory

I’ve been a heavy, early user of AI tools for years, and for the last two I’ve worked directly with clients trying to get real value out of them, not just play around. That includes local city government, county tourism departments, and emergency responders here in Utah: people whose work doesn’t leave room for AI that sounds good in a demo and falls apart in practice. I also run AI directly through my own chiropractic practice, so none of this is theoretical.

Coaching for people and for businesses

Some of what I do is one-on-one: sitting down with someone and working through what AI can actually do for their specific job, project, or business, not a generic tutorial. Some of it is organizational: helping a team or department figure out where AI actually fits into how they already work. Both start the same place, with what you’re trying to get done.

What people come to me for

Prompting that holds up. Almost anyone can get one good answer out of these tools. The difficulty is getting the same quality on the twentieth try, on a Tuesday, from a staff member who was not in the room when you worked it out the first time. That is a technique problem, and technique can be taught.

Output that sounds like you. The first complaint I hear, nearly every time, is that the writing does not sound like the person who asked for it. That is fixable, it is usually the fastest visible win, and it is the difference between a tool someone keeps using and a tool someone quietly abandons.

A place to start. If you have not used these tools seriously, the hard part is not the software. It is knowing what to hand it, what to keep doing yourself, and how to tell when the answer is wrong. That last one matters more than the rest combined.

Tools built for one job. A general-purpose chatbot gives you a general-purpose answer. A Project or a custom GPT, set up for one task, with the right instructions and the right reference material loaded into it, behaves differently and far more reliably.

Getting a whole staff caught up. This works best as one day, two parts. First everyone in the room together, over lunch, about 45 minutes: what these tools actually do, no assumptions about who has touched one before. Then one-on-one, 20 minutes to an hour depending on the role, working through each person’s actual job: what eats their time every week, what AI can take off their plate, and how to do it without creating new problems. Everyone leaves with something specific to their own work, not a slide deck they’ll forget by Friday. It works the same over screen share, so your team doesn’t need to be in Richfield for it. Book a time to talk through what your team needs.

Things I have built

These are live, free, and open to anyone. Each has its own page here with what it does and who it is for.

Tech & Scam Safety Companion. Built for people starting from nothing, in plain language, at whatever pace they set. Email, travel, medical questions, summaries, and scam checks, which is the part people use most: paste in the suspicious text or email and ask whether it is real.

Utah Disaster Response Command. A statewide disaster command tool with live web and data integration. Current wildfire conditions, USGS seismic data, UDOT and weather advisories, recovery projections. Built to retrieve rather than recall, because in emergency work a confident wrong answer is worse than no answer.

Takeoff Prompt Refinery. For the very common situation where someone knows exactly what they want and has no idea how to ask for it. Describe the outcome, it writes the detailed prompt, including stacked prompts that hold several kinds of expertise at once.

The Barth Saga. A comedy built out of a friend’s text messages, voice memos and photographs. Seventy-six chapters, fifty-eight illustrations, and every image prompt printed underneath the picture it produced. A comic novel about a 1988 motorhome is probably not what your organisation needs, but it shows the entire method in public, including the parts that usually stay hidden.

Free class, every Friday

Every Friday, 11:30 to 12:30, I run a free, open class at the Richfield office: 108 N Main St Ste 204, Richfield, UT. No signup, no cost. Drop in, bring a question or a tool you’re stuck on, or just come see what it’s about. Questions before then? Call 435-612-0411.
